Chelsea news: Fresh setback for Blues star, big injury boost for Lampard, Eden Hazard warning

The international break is upon us and Chelsea have several players away with their countries.

The Blues are without a game this weekend owing to the second international break of the season, with Frank Lampard's men next in action against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, October 19.

But there has been mixed news on the injury front for Chelsea ahead of that game, as Lampard continues his preparations for the Stamford Bridge clash after the break.

Below, we take a look at the latest Chelsea news.

Fresh injury setback for Chelsea star

Chelsea's Reece James has withdrawn from the England U21 squad through injury.

The FA confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that James will now miss the game against Slovenia on Friday and the U21 European qualifier against Austria at Stadium MK on Tuesday evening.

It is understood that it is an ankle injury, and James will now return to Stamford Bridge.

This is the latest setback for James, who has just returned from an ankle injury that he picked up while on international duty with Aidy Boothroyd's men during the summer.

James recently made his debut in the Carabao Cup win against Grimsby Town, while he also featured in the Champions League win against Lille last week.

He was an unused substitute at Southampton on Sunday, but the latest injury means he has not travelled with the U21 squad for the friendly with Slovenia.

Trevoh Chalobah, who is on loan at Huddersfield Town from Chelsea, has also withdrawn from the England U21 squad, as a precaution over a fitness concern.

Injury boost for Blues

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has had a number of players missing through injury in the early stages of the season.

But he could be about to get a boost after the international break, with Antonio Rudiger stepping up his recovery from injury.

The 26-year-old missed the beginning of the campaign with the knee injury that he suffered at the end of last season.

The Germany international returned during the 5-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, but suffered another setback with a groin injury in a freak accident as he slipped when running off the pitch.

He has not featured since, but the defender has been back on the pitch at Chelsea's training ground at Cobham during the international break as he steps up his recovery.

Arsene Wenger's Eden Hazard warning

It has not been the best of starts for Eden Hazard since his summer move to Real Madrid.

The Belgian international left Chelsea in a big-money deal, but he has not been at his best in Spain just yet, with one goal in six games for his new side.

That has seen the former Lille man attract criticism, but former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes the 28-year-old will show his best form, although he has delivered a warning about what he can achieve.

"He will be the answer but not in replacing Ronaldo that is for sure," Wenger told BeIN Sports.

"He will not score 50 goals a year because that’s now how they play football.

"Eden Hazard is an exceptional player to create chances to sometimes finish when he needs to do in big games.

"He’s not scared of anybody – I don’t think Real have yet to see the real Hazard , he’s not as sharp physically as he can be.

"That’s why I believe they will discover the real Hazard."
