Chelsea will take on Barcelona on Tuesday in what could be a huge test of how the Frank Lampard regime is shaping up.
Defeat to J-League side Kawasaki Frontale would not have impressed the fanbase, but it is still early days in pre-season.
Lampard does not have long to get his players up to speed before the new campaign gets under way, with just under three weeks to go.
And there are a number of concerns to deal with.
Here we round up the latest news stories from around Stamford Bridge.
Style of play
There will be a new football style at Stamford Bridge this season.
After a year of getting used to Sarri-ball, Frank Lampard will implement a new system for his players.
Fans have so far been able to see their team in action on three occasions - pre-season friendlies against St Patrick's, Bohemians and Kawasaki Frontale in Japan.
But that is not exactly a broad enough spectrum from which to assess how the new boss wants to set his team up.
Marcos Alonso has offered an insight into how they will play.
N'Golo Kante problem
Lampard has a number of concerns to deal with prior to the start of the season.
And chief among them will be the issue of midfielder N'Golo Kante.

The midfield dynamo picked up an injury towards the end of last season and he has not fully recovered from it yet.
And there are concerns inside the Chelsea camp over his fitness, as the clock ticks down towards the start of the new campaign.
Striker boost
Despite the injury concerns over Kante, Lampard was handed a boost over the weekend.
Tammy Abraham missed the game against Kawasaki Frontale with tonsilitis.
However, the young frontman returned to the fold as the players were put through their paces ahead of the game against Barcelona on Tuesday.
Here's a close look at who took part in training and who missed out.
Mount dilemma
Mason Mount has been in sparkling form in pre-season so far.
Netting in the 4-0 win over St Patrick's Athletic in Ireland last week, the youngster made a huge impression in the 1-0 defeat against Kawasaki Frontale with a very promising display.

Mount was excellent in the game and he was unlucky not to find the back of the net after getting on the end of Michy Batshuayi's pass.
And that good form could give his manager a real headache as we head into the new Premier League season.
Here's why, and what Lampard must do with the young midfielder.
