Excitement is slowly building ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League.

Tomorrow is the night where the Blues make their first appearance in European football’s elite competition in over a year.

They hosts a Valencia side which has made a rather slow start to the season and have already made a managerial change.

Frank Lampard’s side warmed up for the game against Los Che in style, putting five past Wolves away from home on Saturday afternoon.

But can the west London outfit make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season under their new head coach.

With that said, here’s the latest news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

It’s been a long journey to the top for Tammy Abraham.

Lampard's experiment

One notable change Lampard made against Wolves was his system.

Ditching his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation in favour of playing three at the back which allowed Marcos Alonso to start at left wing-back - position where he seems most comfortable.

The risk paid off as the Blues bagged five goals.

But is the formation here to stay ahead of upcoming games against Valencia and Liverpool?

Champions League opponents

Despite that superb win over Wolves it’s still been a mixed start to the season for Lampard and Chelsea.

The hope is that they can build on the 5-2 win starting with tomorrow’s clash against Valencia.

As mentioned above, the La Liga have been in turmoil so far this season and were beaten 5-2 by Barcelona at the weekend

It’s safe to say they have had better starts to a campaign.

But how have Ajax and Lille - the other teams in Chelsea’s Champions League group started the season?

Mason Mount boost

Mason Mount has become a regular in the Chelsea side under Frank Lampard so far this season.

And he appears to have pulled rank when it comes to set pieces.

That's even with a senior player like Willian on the pitch.
