Chelsea news: Alvaro Morata thanks his Atletico Madrid teammates after 'difficult time' at Stamford Bridge

Alvaro Morata has thanked his teammates at Atletico Madrid for restoring his confidence after a “difficult time” with Chelsea.

The striker has resettled quickly into Spanish football and scored both goals in Atletico’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday, taking his tally to three goals and an assist in five La Liga games.

Speakting to beIN Sports after the game, he said: “Forwards are always judged by their goals, but on the whole I am happy with how well I have adapted.

“I am happy because I have had a difficult time in recent seasons. My team-mates have made it very easy for me to adapt to life at the club.”

Morata has signed with Atletico on an 18-month loan deal, after his £70m move from cross city rivals Real Madrid to west London failed to meet to expectations.

Atletico currently trail Barcelona by seven points, and Morata believes the club have to win every remaining match to catch the Catalan giants.

“When you are not just depending on your own results, you just have to do your job and hope,” Morata said.

“We have a chance and if we continue in this way we will win every game between now and the end of the season. We will fight to the end.”
