Chelsea new boy Timo Werner scores as Germany draw with Spain in Nations League

Timo Werner scored again but was unable to inspire Germany to a win over Spain in their 1-1 draw in the UEFA Nations League.

After an even first-half the £54m Chelsea signing opened the scoring in the 54th minute in Stuttgart with a super low finish past David de Gea to show Blues fans what is to come in the Premier League.

But Valencia left-back Gaya scored late on to grab a draw for Spain.

Elsewhere Wales secured a late win over Finland as Kieffer Moore tapped home from Dan James' cross in the 80th minute.

Gareth Bale was taken off at half-time after not appearing to be fully fit, but they managed to get the job done without the Real Madrid star courtesy of Moore's strike.

Meanwhile Republic of Ireland grabbed a last-minute equaliser in Stephen Kenny's first game in charge to earn a point against Bulgaria in a 1-1 draw courtesy of Celtic defender Shane Duffy's goal.

A Bozhidar Kraev strike had given Bulgaria the lead in the second half but Duffy's dramatic late header saved the day for the Irish.

Elsewhere there were also wins for the likes of Hungary, Russia and Ukraine, while the Faroe Islands saw off Malta with a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Friday sees more intriguing Nations League games go ahead, with host nation Scotland taking on Israel at Hampden Park while Northern Ireland travel to Romania.

Elsewhere Italy host Bosnia-Herzegovina and Netherlands play Poland.
