Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Tuesday 17, November.
Chelsea suffer Edouard Mendy blow
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been dealt a blow with Edouard Mendy set to miss a month of the season.
But there is no need to panic for Chelsea fans just yet, the goalkeeper will miss a month of the 2021/22 campaign, having qualified for the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.
The 28-year old has been in excellent form for the Blues since his October move from Ligue 1 side Rennes, with six clean sheets from eight games and just two goals conceded.
And head coach Frank Lampard will be loathe to lose him for any period of time in the next campaign if his form continues.
The AFCON qualifying victory with his national side means he is set miss a month of action in January of the 2021/22 campaign due to the tournament which will be held in Cameroon.
Asmir Begovic backs Kepa Arrizabalaga to bounce back
Ex-Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic has offered his support to under fire Blues star Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spanish international has lost his starting place in Frank Lampard’s side following a poor start to the 2020/21 and the impressive beginning to life at the club for Edouard Mendy.
However, despite his issues in recent weeks, Bosnian international Begovic has backed him to come back stronger after the international break and fight for his place in the team.
"If you spend a big transfer fee it does not mean everything is going to work out,” Begovic told talkSPORT. “there are a lot of factors in making a move work and making an impact at a club.
“Mendy has come in and done really, really well. I think he’s really solidified that position. He’s been impressive and he’s someone I really enjoy watching.
“But do I think Kepa can prove everybody wrong? Possibly. I think Kepa is a really good goalkeeper, he played really well in Spain before his move to Chelsea and it’s obviously been a a tricky time for him.
“He’s got really good quality and I’m sure he’ll be a huge success, whether at Chelsea or somewhere else.”
Kepa looks certain to return to the Blues line up for their trip to Newcastle on November 21, with Mendy out injured for the next four weeks, in what could be a make or break period for the 26-year old at Stamford Bridge.
PSG linked with big money offer for Blues star N’Golo Kante
Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain could be prepared to ‘break the bank’ to sign Chelsea’s midfield star N’Golo Kante in 2021.
The French giants were linked with Kante ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, alongside former Blues boss Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan, however no formal offer materialised.
However, despite playing a key role for Frank Lampard’s side this season, former PSG player Eric Rabesandratana believes Thomas Tuchel should go all out for him next summer, according to reports from the Daily Express.
"I would like to say that if I were a leader at PSG I would break the bank to sign N'Golo Kante,” he said.
"He was still huge yesterday (in France’s 1-0 win over Portugal).
“Kante is the player who would allow PSG to win the Champions League. We do not need [Lionel] Messi or anyone else."
If Kante does move on from Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2021/21 season that could potentially free up the necessary funds for Lampard to launch a £60m offer for West Ham’s Declan Rice.
