Chelsea morning headlines as midfielder opens up on £40m move, Chiesa teases summer transfer

Here are the Chelsea morning headlines for Saturday, May 9.

Going for Gosens

Chelsea are continuing their quest for a new left-back - and the latest to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Atalanta's Robin Gosens.

Part of the squad that took the Italians to the Champions League quarter-finals, the 25-year-old can play in a flat back four or further forward on the left - and reports in Germany indicate that Chelsea are now watching his progress very closely.

The Blues had also been linked with Leicester City's Ben Chilwell and Porto's Alex Telles - and they will have to compete with a number of other clubs for Gosens' signature.

That includes the Foxes, who will have to replace Chilwell should he decide to move on, and Inter, now managed by former Blues boss Antonio Conte, who is interested in reuniting with former charge Marcos Alonso.

Winger’s English lessons

Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa is reportedly learning English – which will give Chelsea a big boost in their quest to sign the winger.

The Blues and Manchester United are just two of the Premier League clubs interested in signing the star from La Viola, who is valued at around £60 million.

And director general Joe Barone has now revealed that Chiesa is practising his new language – which onlookers believe signals his intent to move to England in the near future.

"We’ll see what his future will be at the end of the season," Barone said on Radio Toscana.

"He is sought-after by Italian clubs, but also from foreign ones."

Matic’s moment

Nemanja Matic has reflected on his 2017 move away from Chelsea – and said it was the “right moment” to leave the club.

He also hinted at some more controversial reasons for his decision to sign for Manchester United and link up with his former Blues coach Jose Mourinho – but didn’t elaborate further.

"I was very happy at Chelsea, but I thought it was the right moment to change club,” said the Serbian, according to Metro.

"There were reasons which are hard for me to say now. I will never forget my time there, but I’m a Manchester United player now."

Matic had been a crucial part of Antonio Conte’s title-winning team in 2016-17 – but opted to head to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £40 million.
