Chelsea morning headlines as Marina Granovskaia opens transfer talks with Jan Oblak

Here are the Chelsea morning headlines for Tuesday, July 28.

Chelsea ‘open talks’ with Oblak

Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia has reportedly held talks with Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak about the possibility of a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Daily Star, the shot-stopper is at the top of Frank Lampard’s list to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks for the Blues.

No team in the top half of the Premier League table conceded more goals than Chelsea last season, with Kepa failing to make an impact despite his world-record transfer fee of £72million.

Oblak stands as one of the best goalkeepers in world football right now and would represent a major coup if they signed him from Diego Simeone’s side this summer.

Willian close to new deal

Willian is believed to be close to signing a new deal at Chelsea after extensive contract negotiations with the club.

The Brazil international’s time at Stamford Bridge is due to end this summer when his deal expires but he has made progress with the club in terms of contract talks, according to Sky Sports.

They state the 31-year-old could sign a new deal as soon as the end of this week, meaning the winger would have his future sorted by the time of the FA Cup final versus Arsenal this weekend.

It is understood that issues in negotiations had been due to the player’s demand of a three-year deal, while Chelsea were only willing to offer a two-year extension given that he is reaching the latter years of his career.

A progression in talks may suggest that either party has slightly changed their stance as the transfer window opens.

Kepa tipped for summer departure

Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa has been tipped for a summer departure from Stamford Bridge, amid suggestions that he has failed to impress his boss.

That is according to Michael Brown who believes the 25-year-old will leave the club with Lampard reportedly searching for a new number one.

The former Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder told Football Insider: “There have been rumours flying around that Frank Lampard is looking to replace him with certain goalkeepers.

“If you don’t buy into what Frank Lampard wants you to do, even this early in his tenure, he’ll look to move people out.

“They’ll be looking to get the best money they can for him but as a goalkeeper, he’ll also want to play, you could see it won’t be that straightforward getting him out.”
