Chelsea the better team in second-half - Keane
Roy Keane believes Chelsea were “by far” the better team in the second half of their goalless stalemate at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Chelsea missed the opportunity to replace Liverpool at the top of the table on goal difference as both sides largely cancelled each other out at Stamford Bridge.
However, former Manchester United captain Keane feels the Blues had the better chances during a “disappointing” second period, with Olivier Giroud and Mason Mount both going close for Frank Lampard’s side.
“The second half was disappointing,” Keane told Sky Sports. “I thought Chelsea were by far the better team in the second half – they had the better of the chances.
“The longer these games go on, when it’s so tight, you feel that both teams and both managers are just settling for a draw. And they both seem content with the draw.”
Lampard buoyed by defensive display
Blues boss Lampard has hailed how his players nullified Tottenham’s counter-attacking threat with key Spurs threats Son Heung-min and Harry Kane both enduring frustrating afternoons.
Chelsea restricted Jose Mourinho’s side to just one shot on target, and while the hosts were unable to find a winner, Lampard was pleased with how his side executed his game plan.
“I thought we dominated big parts of the game,” said Lampard.
“Everything that we talked of before the game in terms of nullifying their counter-attacking threat we did really well, so that part of the game was fantastic.
“We almost gifted them one at the end and I thought we created enough. It is difficult to create against Tottenham when they have a low block, the whole team defending centrally.
“We had to try to go round them and try crosses and have shots, but it is hard. You have to try to stop counter attacking in transitions. I thought that part of our game was excellent.”
Abraham must ‘step up’ his game - Hasselbaink
Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has been told he must “do better” by former Blues frontman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after failing to score against Tottenham.
Abraham has scored five goals in all competitions this season but struggled before being taken off against Spurs, with Hasselbaink explaining how the 23-year-old can improve.
“For me, Abraham has to do better," Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.
"[Reece] James can’t do any better for him, he’s put that ball in the right space. Put your head against it, it doesn’t matter who you are, these are brilliant crosses.
"For a striker, this is what you want, at this moment. These are the moments that are counting for Abraham, where he needs to step up.
"Why is he going to the floor? Stand up, you’ve already done the most difficult thing. Stay on your feet and tap it in. It’s 1-0, it’s always going to be a 1-0 game.
"He’s had three chances where he has to make it his own. He has to improve in those moments."
