Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, October 25.
Lampard message to goalkeepers
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has appeared to send a message to Kepa Arrizabalaga when praising the performance of Edouard Mendy.
The Senegalese goalkeeper impressed in Saturday’s scoreless draw at Manchester United with a series of impressive saves.
However, Lampard’s message after the game by saying “you rely on them” for goalkeepers could be aimed at Kepa, who has lost prominence at the club.
Lampard said, as per football.london: "Yes his performance was very good. You rely on your goalkeepers in those moments in a tight game, not full of many chances. Rashford's first chance was a mistake from us, the one at the end was a moment of quality from him. He showed us what he is there for.
"We brought him in for his quality. He showed great composure in the games he's played already and with the saves today in a tight game you rely on them moments."
Thiago Silva shone against Rashford
Chelsea signed Thiago Silva on a free-transfer this summer following his exit from Paris Saint-Germain.
As argued by football.london, this decision has been firmly vindicated with the defender superbly anchoring a back-three alongside Cesar Azpiliceuta and Kurt Zouma against Manchester United.
The report cites one moment when he was in a foot-race against Marcus Rashford, but showed him onto his left foot and eventually the striker was crowded out by defenders.
Silva’s positioning, leadership and knowhow have all proved key for the Blues in recent games.
Rice remains Blues target
Chelsea enjoyed a busy summer transfer window with multiple first-team additions, although one of their key transfer targets alluded them.
West Ham United’s Declan Rice was a target for Lampard’s side and the Blues have made him a priority for the January window, as per a report in the Daily Star.
The 21-year-old has already clocked up more than 100 Premier League appearances and the Hammers are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
However, the decision could largely rest with the player and whether or not he decides to push West Ham into a sale in mid-season.
