Chelsea morning headlines as Kai Havertz value revealed and Arsenal star praises Werner

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for June 14.

Chelsea may have to break transfer record for Havertz

They may already have committed to a sizeable outlay on players this summer, but Chelsea’s frenzy in the transfer market looks set to continue.

According to Bild , the Blues are interested in signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz is open to a move, though there will be fierce competition from, among others, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Even Chelsea might baulk at Havertz’s transfer fee, however. The latest figures from the CIES Football Observatory suggest that Havertz is currently worth €94.7m (£84.9m).

Were Bayer to agree with that valuation, it would mean Chelsea would have to break their transfer record – the £71.6m they paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga – to secure his signature.

Arsenal star Leno backs Werner to succeed

Travel restrictions may have delayed him from completing his medical, but Timo Werner’s move to Stamford Bridge is expected to be confirmed sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, he has been backed to excel at Chelsea by Arsenal goalkeeper and Germany teammate Bernd Leno.

“I get on very well with Timo,” Leno told Sky Sports Germany . “He is very welcome in London.

“I would be happy for him, Chelsea is a great choice, no question about it.

“The Premier League is faster, more physical. But I think he's good for it. Timo is an extremely fast player.

“With his qualities and killer instinct, I’m afraid I have to say, he could be reinforcing Chelsea.”

Chelsea consider move for Forster

Having focused on attacking reinforcements in the transfer market thus far, Chelsea have now turned their attention to a back-up goalkeeper who can compete for minutes with Kepa.

According to Football Insider they are considering a move for Southampton keeper Fraser Forster, who has spent the season on loan at Celtic.

Southampton will reportedly listen to offers for Forster and value him at around £10m.

The 32-year-old made 32 appearances for Celtic in 2019/20.
