Here are the Chelsea morning headlines for Wednesday, September 2.
Kai Havertz announcement imminent after medical completed
An announcement that Kai Havertz will become Chelsea’s new record signing is imminent, according to a report from reputable German outlet Bild (via The Daily Star).
The 21-year-old is currently on international duty with Germany as they prepare for Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland, but has already reportedly completed his medical with the Blues.
It’s said that Chelsea have agreed a £72million fee (plus add-ons) with Bayer Leverkusen, with the attacking midfielder set to follow in the footsteps of Die Mannschaft team-mate Timo Werner in trading the Bundesliga for Stamford Bridge this summer.
Emerson to leave Chelsea
Following the signing of Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri is expected to be sold in the coming weeks, with a return to Serie A likely.
The Brazil-born Italy international signed for an undisclosed fee from Roma in January 2018, but has struggled to stake a regular claim in the Blues backline, making just 30 Premier League appearances in two-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.
His agent has confirmed that he could be set for a reunion with Antonio Conte at Inter Milan.
"It is possible he will leave Chelsea," Fernando Garcia told FCInter08 (via Goal). "I have not yet spoken to the club. All I can say is that there is interest from Inter in the player. We’ll see."
Timo Werner outlines Premier League ambitions
New Chelsea recruit Timo Werner has been speaking to the media at a press conference ahead of Germany’s Nations League clash with Spain on Thursday.
"I think that’s more of an incentive," responded Werner (via Metro) when asked if he aims to replicate the same prolific form at Chelsea.
"What the club demands of me is no less than I demand of myself.
"The club has brought me to score goals and after 28 [Bundesliga] goals for Leipzig I have not come to London to say a few is enough for me now.”
Here’s what he said in full.
