Chelsea morning headlines as January transfer target identified and Ben Chilwell claim made

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, November 1.

Lampard insists there is ‘more to come’ from Chilwell

Frank Lampard has backed Ben Chilwell to get even better after an impressive start to his Chelsea career.

The left-back was a standout performer again as the Blues eased to a 3-0 victory at Burnley on Saturday.

But Lampard has suggested the 23-year-old is only just getting started following his summer move from Leicester City.

“For Chilly, part of the reason to bring him to the club is his ability to cover a lot of high intensity moments in games, where he is joining in and getting high up the pitch and we haven’t utilised it enough in the last two or three performances, I have got to say, so it is something I spoke about yesterday and worked on with the team,” said the Chelsea boss.

Frank Lampard always believed in Christian Pulisic

“We saw that a bit today with when they went and our balance with the midfield eights dropping in slightly.

“We were finding different lines very well. With the quality of Chilly, we have to utilise him and get him high up the pitch at times is a big deal for us and he will get better as he is settling in. There’s a lot more to come from Chilly.”

Van de Beek’s Ziyech prediction proves accurate

Donny van de Beek’s prediction that his former Ajax teammate, Hakim Ziyech, would do well at Chelsea has been proved right so far.

The Blues’ summer signing has made an excellent start, scoring in the Champions League win over Krasnodar on Wednesday evening and then again in yesterday’s 3-0 victory over Burnley.

And Manchester United midfielder van de Beek’s comments earlier this year proved prescient.

“I wish him everything and hope he will do very well there. It is a step he deserves in my opinion,” the Dutchman told Votebal Primeur.

“He is a fantastic football player, so I am confident that he will do well.

“I think it's a very nice club with a lot of young players that can grow. I think Hakim will certainly be in [the right] place.

“Everyone, of course, had their opinion about that, but I think it's a nice club for him.”

Chelsea considering bid for Malmo defender

Chelsea are interested in signing Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to a report from Expressen.

The former Nottingham Forest centre-back is expected to be the subject of an €8m bid from the Blues.

But Malmo could hold out for a higher fee, especially given that the 21-year-old still has three years remaining on his contract with the Swedish club.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will move to sign Ahmedhodzic in January. There have been signs of defensive improvement in recent weeks, with Lampard’s side recording four successive clean sheets and boosted by the arrival of Thiago Silva.
