Chelsea morning headlines as fresh goalkeeper transfer links emerge after Dean Henderson blow

Here are the Chelsea morning headlines for Thursday, August 27.

New Chelsea goalkeeper to come from France?

It is abundantly clear that Chelsea are looking for a new goalkeeper. Kepa Arrizabalaga’s many mistakes last season made that process inevitable.

As such there have been no shortage of names being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to take position between the goal posts.

According to Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro, Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan is among them. The 25-year-old, who began his career with Paris Saint-Germain, is said to be available for €30million (£27m), which would be considerably less than other targets – such as Jan Oblak – would cost.

Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell transfer latest from Oliver Harbord and Alan Smith

Maignan was Ligue 1’s goalkeeper of the year in 2018/19, and has made 133 appearances in total for Lille.

Terry sends message to Silva

Thiago Silva’s eight-year association with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end on Sunday, with defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

The veteran Brazilian is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Chelsea. And as is the fashion these days, the 35-year-old posted a message on social media to thank his team and their supporters.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry, who is now part of the coaching team at Aston Villa, made a comment on the post which clearly showed where he hopes Silva ends up.

Henderson signs long-term contract

Another goalkeeper who has reportedly been of interest to the Blues is Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old has spent the previous two seasons with Sheffield United.

The Blades earned promotion to the Premier League during his first year with the club, then finished ninth in the top flight last season.

However, he was only at the club on loan, as he actually belongs to Manchester United. He has now signed a new five-year contract with them too, which would appear to rule him out of the running for a move to Chelsea.

"The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper,” he told United’s official website.
