Chelsea morning headlines as Fikayo Tomori rejects late transfer move, Hudson-Odoi's future

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Tuesday, 6 October.

Defender decided against leaving Chelsea with 10 minutes until deadline

Fikayo Tomori made the decision not to leave Chelsea just 10 minutes before the transfer deadline, turning down West Ham United’s offer to join them on loan.

The defender had been on the Hammers’ radar after summer signings at Stamford Bridge had seen Tomori, who had also been linked with a move to Everton, drop down Frank Lampard’s pecking order.

According to the Express, West Ham were keen to improve their defence and made an offer to sign Tomori for the 2020/21 season, with a deal on the cards until the final moments of the window.

But with the clock counting down to the deadline, Tomori made the call to remain at Chelsea and fight for his place despite the increased competition.

Chelsea’s summer transfer window reviewed by football.london writers

Deadline day might have been quiet but it was a busy summer at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea making no fewer than seven additions to Frank Lampard’s squad.

Indeed, the Blues were among the most active in the Premier League, with deals struck for Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr over the window.

football.london’s writers have provided their assessment of Chelsea’s transfer window performance as Roman Abramovich bankrolled more than £200million-worth of signings for the Blues.

One question mark hangs over Chelsea: did they do enough to strengthen their defence, with Silva their only major addition to the centre-back positions?

Bayern Munich move means Chelsea winger’s future is still in doubt

Bayern Munich failed in their effort to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer, but the short-term signing they made instead suggests the Chelsea winger’s future is still in doubt.

The German and European champions’ loan signing of Douglas Costa from Juventus hints that they will return for Hudson-Odoi in a future transfer window as they look to secure a long-term option on the wing.

Lampard recently instead Hudson-Odoi won’t be leading Stamford Bridge and has a bright future at the club.

“Callum is absolutely part of my plans here. We have [Christian] Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech injured before Christian came back in today,” he said.

“We need options and what Callum showed today and the second half against West Brom is exactly what he needs to show. I am pleased with him.”
