Chelsea morning headlines as Edouard Mendy personal terms agreed, Lampard's Jorginho decision

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Friday, 11 September.

Batshuayi reaction to Gilmour’s new number

Chelsea’s confirmation of Billy Gilmour’s new shirt number prompted a humorous response from Michy Batshuayi.

The Blues, on Thursday, revealed their squad numbers for the 2020/21 season with Gilmour set to take Batshuayi’s No.23 shirt.

Batshuayi, this week, joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal after signing a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

"Oh... I thought you were my guy @billygilmourrr," wrote the Belgian striker on Twitter. "Love bro make me proud."

Lampard coy on Mendy, adamant about Tomori and Havertz

Gilmour, 19, replied by saying : “Your my bro, always Michy.”

Chelsea and Rennes apart on Mendy fee

Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has agreed to join Chelsea although the transfer is being held up by the two clubs struggling to agree on a fee, as per RMC Sport.

Mendy is keen to join the Blues with Frank Lampard interested in supplying stiff competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, talks are set to continue after Chelsea's €20million offer fell €8million short of Rennes valuation.

Mendy would become Chelsea’s seventh new arrival in the current window if he were to sign.

They have already made a significant impression in the market by signing Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.

Lampard would prefer to sell Jorginho over Kante

Chelsea are not interested in selling N’Golo Kante to Inter Milan but would listen to offers for Jorginho, according to The Guardian .

Chelsea have rejected an offer from the Italians for the French midfielder which included Marcelo Brozovic as a makeweight, with Inter boss Antonio Conte determined to land the 28-year-old.

However, the Blues have informed Inter that they are not keen on the Croatian, nor are they interested in former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.

And while Lampard is keen to retain Kante’s services, he would be willing to let Jorginho go.

Jorginho was a first-team regular under Maurizio Sarri but has fallen down the pecking order under Lampard.

Selling Jorginho would open up a space in the Chelsea midfield with the club expected to move for West Ham United’s Declan Rice after completing their deal for Mendy.
