Chelsea morning headlines as Dries Mertens transfer clue spotted and deal Willian wants revealed

Here are the Chelsea morning headlines on Sunday, May 10.

Chelsea fans notice Mertens clue

Napoli forward Dries Mertens has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.

The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to depart the Stadio San Paolo on a free transfer.

Chelsea are reportedly among the interested parties, and the Daily Star notes that eagle-eyed supporters have noticed that Frank Lampard follows Mertens on Instagram.

Lampard is an admirer of the forward and tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the January window.

Chelsea are keen to secure some additional firepower and creativity in the final third following Eden Hazard’s exit last July.

And Lampard appears to be keeping a close eye on the 31-year-old ahead of the summer.

Arsenal must offer three-year deal for Willian

Willian is unlikely to join Arsenal this summer unless the club offers him a three-year deal.

The Brazil international looks set to depart Chelsea when his contract expires in July, having failed to agree fresh terms with the Blues.

The sticking point was the length of the extension, with Chelsea only prepared to commit to two more years.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked with the winger, who is keen to sign for a new club until 2023.

"Everyone knows that my contract ends now in a few months, so the renewal is really a difficult thing to happen,” he said.

"I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three and it ended there, we didn't talk anymore, we didn't negotiate anymore."

Pulisic opens up on Chelsea arrival

Christian Pulisic says he was not given the warmest welcome by his new Chelsea team-mates when he arrived at the club last summer.

Pulisic agreed to move to Stamford Bridge in January 2019, but the deal didn’t go through until the end of the season.

The United States international’s arrival in west London was further delayed due to his participation in the Gold Cup.

That made for a hectic start to life at Chelsea, and was part of the reason why he had to remain patient for opportunities at the beginning of the season.

“The team had already started pre-season in Japan so I flew straight there and I had to literally fly by myself and then met the team who had flown from London,” he told the 13&MEpodcast.

"I had to go straight to the hotel and the next thing on the schedule was to go straight to training. I was tired, nervous and didn’t know what to think but ‘I’m at Chelsea and this is insane’.

"I got on the bus, they had just arrived as well. Everyone is half asleep, I go and sit on the bus and nobody even noticed me. Nobody said anything. There were maybe one or two guys who said ‘hey, hello’ and I was like ‘what’s going on here?’”
