Chelsea morning headlines as Cole praises Lampard and Abramovich, Giroud set for MLS move

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, November 22nd.

Ian Wright outlines Tammy Abraham improvement

Ian Wright has outlined the improvement of Tammy Abraham’s movement after the striker scored in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Saturday lunchtime.

Abraham, who has now scored in his last three outings, impressed Wright with his runs off the ball, which he says will only aid the 23-year-old’s quest for more goals.

“Some of the movement I saw against Sheffield United wasn’t as great as it was today, as his movement today was fantastic,” Wright said on BBC's Match of the Day.

“Then obviously at the end, the way he took his goal. What I like about Tammy is the way that he gets on the shoulder, he gets in front of them.

“He needs to attack the back and hit the front. They do make the chances and he just needs to take them.”

Inter Miami line up Olivier Giroud move

David Beckham’s MLS club, Inter Miami, are reportedly set to make a move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who has been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit in January amid concerns regarding his lack of playing time.

Giroud, who is eager to play more as he looks to earn a place in Didier Deschamps’ France team ahead of next summer’s Euros, signed a one-year extension last season. But he could leave the club in January after dropping behind Timo Werner and Abraham in the striking pecking order.

And now the Mirror report that Inter Miami are considering a move for Giroud as they look to bolster their squad in the MLS offseason.

Earlier this season, football.london reported that Giroud is open to other opportunities in a bid to find regular playing time, but it remains to be seen whether a move to the States attracts him as Deschamps may not select a player not competing in a high-level league.

Joe Cole praises Lampard, Abramovich

Joe Cole has praised Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich for their work in the summer to set up a Chelsea team that temporarily moved top of the table on Saturday afternoon before Spurs’ victory against Manchester City.

It was the first time that Chelsea have sat atop the standings under Lampard’s guidance and Cole believes that both he and Abramovich have played a key role in the Blues’ strong start to the season.

“They’ve looked so good. We’ve sung the praises of Thiago Silva and Reece James, but everyone’s scoring in the forward positions. It’s just a very steady ship at the moment,” he said on BT Sport.

“Frank has to take a lot of credit for that. The ownership has to take a lot of credit for that for sticking by Frank, just giving him the money to spend.

“In that first season, he did a great job, bringing in the youngsters, blooding them, bringing stability and he’s now added the quality of [Hakim] Ziyech and [Kai] Havertz.

“Chelsea now look a real threat, I don’t think people will be wrong by saying Chelsea will be in for a shout of it come the end of the season.

“There’s so much quality going all the way through the team now.”
