Chelsea morning headlines as Christian Eriksen swap deal revealed and next transfer priorities

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Friday, 9 October.

Inter wanted to swap Eriksen for Kante

Inter tried to sign N’Golo Kante by offering Chelsea Christian Eriksen in a part-exchange deal, according to Calciomercato.

The former Tottenham midfielder is considered surplus to requirements by manager Antonio Conte, who was determined to bring in Kante.

But Chelsea were clearly not willing to sell the Frenchman and rejected Inter’s offer.

Is Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Fulham a good move?

Eriksen is still with the Serie A club but has been unable to establish himself in the first team since his arrival in January.

The two transfers Chelsea could prioritise next

Chelsea were proactive in the transfer window, bringing in several players to strengthen Frank Lampard’s squad.

In fact, the Blues were the most active Premier League team in the market, spending over £200million on new additions.

And director Marina Granovskaia is likely to be busy again in January - and next summer - as the Blues look to address any remaining weak points in the team.

We took a look at the positions Chelsea might prioritise in the upcoming transfer windows, with Declan Rice likely to be a key target.

Lampard shouldn’t forget about veteran striker

Olivier Giroud remains a good option for Frank Lampard, despite the signing of Timo Werner this summer.

The Frenchman has made only one Premier League appearance as a substitute so far this season.

Like the start of the last campaign, Giroud appears to be behind other players in the pecking order.

The former Arsenal man looked set to leave the club given his lack of game time in the first half of 2019/20, but forced his way back into Lampard’s plans.

And his performances since - including a brace in France’s 7-1 win over Ukraine on Wednesday - should be enough to keep him in the picture at Chelsea.
