Chelsea morning headlines as Chilwell valuation revealed, Lampard's dream attack with Werner

Here are the Chelsea morning headlines on Saturday, June 6.

Chelsea fall short of Chilwell asking price

The long-running pursuit of Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell may be one of this summer’s transfer sagas as Chelsea are yet to meet the club’s valuation of the player.

Leicester view Chilwell in the same price range as fellow England international and former Foxes defender Harry Maguire.

Maguire swapped the King Power Stadium for Old Trafford last summer, and Leicester seem intent on holding out for a similar fee from Chelsea.

The Guardian have reported Chelsea are only willing to offer up to £45 million for the left-back after spending close to £100 million on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

Chilwell is reportedly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but his asking price could prove to be a snag for the Blues.

Bundesliga raid at the Bridge

Following the agreement to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Chelsea are in the market for a second Bundesliga star Kai Havertz.

German outlet BILD claim Chelsea are also interested in signing the Bayer Leverkusen star this summer in a bid to bolster their attacking options.

Chelsea have already spent large sums on Hakim Ziyech from AFC Ajax as well as Werner’s £53 million switch, but Havertz could be the most expensive yet.

Leverkusen are holding out for a fee upwards of £70 million, given the interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

How Chelsea’s attack will look next season

The additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner could usher in a new era at Stamford Bridge, spearheaded by their young, dynamic attack.

Frank Lampard’s policy since joining the club as manager has very much been ‘out with the old, in with the new’ and this summer’s transfer dealings are no different.

Ziyech and Werner will add vision, speed and dynamism to a Chelsea front three that already boasts Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic.

With Willian and Pedro likely heading for the exit door, Werner and Ziyech are youthful additions who could straddle Abraham who may retain his central role.

Werner also provides Lampard with the ability to play in an attacking duo, as a lone striker on the shoulder of the last defender, or from the left flank in a 4-3-3.

Ziyech on the other hand, will likely compete for a place on the flanks with the current incumbents, as well as being able to play deeper and more centrally.
