Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Monday, August 24.
Chilwell saving could fund Havertz bid
Frank Lampard may have strengthened his attacking options with the acquisitions of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, but the Chelsea boss is also on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.
Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is one man who is in the frame for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and reports claimed it was set to cost the Blues £80 million to secure his services.
However, according to the Telegraph , a deal could be struck for an initial fee of £50 million, thanks to the Foxes failing to qualify for the Champions League.
And if money is saved on that signing, does that put Chelsea in a stronger position when it comes to signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen?
PSG man could be set for Chelsea move
Paris Saint-Germain missed the opportunity to become champions of Europe for the first time last night, as they were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich.
They deserve credit for only conceding once against the free-scoring German champions though, and one of their backline could be about to sign for Chelsea.
Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva looks set to be leaving PSG after eight seasons with the club, and the 35-year-old reportedly favours the Premier League as his next destination. Lampard could be set to offer the veteran a one year deal to help shore up the Blues’ backline.
Atleti “scared” Oblak wants to join Chelsea
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed that Atletico Madrid are “scared” that their goalkeeper Jan Oblak – a man widely regarded as the best in his position in the world – will want to join Chelsea.
Lampard lost patience with Kepa Arrizabalaga last season, despite the Spaniard being the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the game.
His fee will be surpassed should Oblak join the Blues. The 27-year-old has a release clause of €120 million (£108 million). But while Atleti may be concerned, there’s no sign yet that the deal is on.
"My understanding is that right now at this stage there has been no offer from Chelsea at all. So we'll have to keep an eye on it,” said Balague on his YouTube channel.
