Chelsea morning headlines as Blues receive Timo Werner transfer boost, Mohamed Ihattaren latest

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, May3.

Blues boost in hunt for Leipzig striker

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

In an interview with German publication Sport Bild, Werner disclosed his attitude towards a potential summer move.

"Bayern is a great club, we don't need to talk about it”, he said in response to rumours about a switch to Bundesliga rivals FC Bayern München.

“If a change should ever become an issue, I would rather take a step abroad than switch to Bavaria”, Werner added.

The 24-year-old’s admission that a foreign move would prove more tempting is a boost for his Premier League suitors – one of whom is Chelsea.

Werner has scored 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga outings this season and is one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

Blues chase PSV teenager

Chelsea are just one of a number of top European clubs in the transfer hunt for PSV Eindhoven star Mohamed Ihattaren.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato report that the 18-year-old has been scouted extensively by a number of leading clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester City and Internazionale.

Ihattaren has been a regular for PSV this season, scoring nine times and registering nine assists in all competitions, putting himself on Chelsea's radar. His current deal at the Eredivisie club runs until June 2022.

Lampard takes issue with Premier League restart

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has raised his concerns over a potential Premier League restart.

The former England international stated that the league cannot resume if players and staff remain at risk from the threat of coronavirus.

Speaking to BT Sport, Lampard said, “We’re all aware of the nation’s desire to get football back on because of what it means, the escapism and how we love our football.

“But of course health and safety comes first. Now all the steps to try and get that in place have got to be the important thing.”

Lampard reiterated the need to put the collective health of players and staff at the forefront of the discussion.
