Chelsea morning headlines as Blues ramp up Edouard Mendy pursuit and four players set to leave

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, 6 September.

Chelsea summer splurge to continue with new keeper arrival imminent

Big-spending Chelsea are set to continue their huge summer recruitment drive with the signing of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Daily Star reports the Blues technical director Petr Cech could help facilitate the move, having played for the French side before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2004.

Chelsea have already spent in excess of £200million on players this summer with Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell all arriving for massive fees.

Mendy would reportedly cost an additional £18m and would step in to replace current Blues number one Kepa Arrizabalaga who has failed to convince since his £71m move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.

Frank Lampard facing decision over Pulisic

Chelsea fans are understandably excited by the wealth of attacking talent at the club following the big-name arrivals at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Werner, Havertz and Ziyech have all joined for big fees and with the likes of Christian Pulisic already at the club, Frank Lampard is set to be left with a very welcome selection headache as he attempts to accommodate all his stars.

However, with the American suffering a hamstring injury in the FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal at the start of August, the Chelsea boss may need to re-adjust his plans ahead of the Premier League opener against Brighton.

"It’s going to be touch and go for the start of the season," Lampard revealed ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich last month. "Six weeks probably gets into the start of the season, but we have to treat the injury right.”

Football London’s Rob Guest looks at how this might impact how Timo Werner is deployed and whether it could open the door for another striker currently at the club.

Blues quartet to depart Stamford Bridge

With all the incomings, Chelsea will have to make decisions on a number of fringe players at the club.

The Blues will look to offload as many four players in order to offset the big spending on new arrivals at the club in recent weeks.

The Daily Star reports that Jorginho, Emerson Palmieri, Fikayo Tomori and Tiemoue Bakayoko could all be surplus to requirements and heading out the door in either loan or permanent moves before the window shuts on October 6.
