Chelsea morning headlines as Blues prepare fresh Edouard Mendy bid, summer signings praised

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Thursday, September 3.

Chelsea receive goalkeeper warning

Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Chelsea will compete for the Premier League title this season unless they sign a new goalkeeper.

Kepa Arrizabalaga endured a difficult season last time out, with Frank Lampard at times favouring the veteran Willy Caballero.

The Blues have been linked with several new shot-stoppers but are yet to make a signing in that department.

And Carragher believes the club may struggle to challenge at the top of the division if Kepa remains between the sticks.

The ultimate lowdown on Edouard Mendy

“Chelsea had to buy four players, I get that,” Carragher told Sky Sports, as per The Metro.

“But if they don’t reinforce in the goalkeeping situation, I don’t see much change for them really in terms of where they will finish.”

Mills praises transfer business

Danny Mills has hailed Chelsea’s player recruitment so far this summer.

The Blues have been the busiest side in the Premier League, bringing in Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

Kai Havertz is expected to seal a switch to Stamford Bridge soon, while Declan Rice and others continue to be linked with the club.

And Mills believes the new faces will work well with Chelsea’s existing squad.

"You've got Azpilicueta, great experience, you are going to have Kante, Mount, Havertz in midfield,” the former England international told talkSPORT.

"Ziyech, Werner and Pulisic. And then they have strength in depth beyond that.

"It's a real good squad of players. They haven't been able to spend in the last couple of windows but now they have gone for it."

Mendy bid imminent?

Jan Oblak is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, but he may prove too expensive for Chelsea this summer.

Lampard has duly turned his attention to other targets, with Rennes shot-stopper Edouard Mendy now reportedly his leading target.

Chelsea have already had a £15million offer turned down, but according to L’Equipe they are set to return with an improved bid.
