Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Thursday, May 28.
Chelsea handed Werner boost
Chelsea could have the edge on Liverpool in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer.
The Germany international has a release clause of £52million, but the Daily Mirror report that Liverpool are not willing to meet that fee.
In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side are not prepared to pay more than £30million for the 24-year-old.
That could leave the door open for Chelsea to pounce for a player who has scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga this term.
However, Real Madrid and Manchester United are also thought to be interested in Werner, who is now in his fourth season with RB Leipzig.
Chelsea eye free transfer for wonderkid
Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Xavier Mbuyamba, according to Sport.
Barcelona are now willing to let the 18-year-old leave on a free this summer, meaning Frank Lampard’s side could land the wonderkid for nothing.
The teenager joined Barca from MVV Maastricht last summer but are said to have opted against offering him a new deal.
That leaves Mbuyamba, who has been compared to Virgil van Dijk in his native Netherlands, free to move on in the coming months.
The centre-back’s agent, Carlos Barros, has already claimed that “Chelsea have the best credentials” in an interview with VI.
Chelsea could miss out on Osimhen
Chelsea are losing ground in their bid to sign Victor Osimhen from Lille this summer.
Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with the forward, but Le10sport report the 21-year-old is more likely to move to Serie A.
Napoli and Inter have both registered their interest in a player who scored 18 goals in 38 appearances for Lille in 2019/20.
And Osimhen is particularly keen on a move to Napoli as he believes he would receive more game time at the Stadio San Paolo.
Chelsea may yet attempt to persuade the Frenchman to move to Stamford Bridge instead, but as things stand it is Napoli who lead the race.
