Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Sunday, July 12.
Chelsea face Kai Havertz problem
Following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United, Chelsea fans face a nervous couple of days with their Champions League future potentially hanging in the balance.
Leicester City and Manchester United could both leapfrog Frank Lampard’s Blues if they beat Bournemouth and Southampton respectively, while the final decision on Manchester City’s European ban is set to be announced tomorrow.
That could leave Chelsea in fifth place which if City’s appeal is successful, would not guarantee Champions League football next term.
The club have done well to secure the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, but face competition from Bayern Munich for reported top target Kai Havertz.
The prospect of offering top-level European football could give the edge to the perennial Bundesliga champions if it’s something Chelsea can’t match in the immediacy.
Here is a closer look at the situation.
Blues tipped to sign wantaway Real Madrid striker
Chelsea are one of three clubs linked with Luka Jovic in a new report from Mundo Deportivo.
The 22-year-old Serbian international was one of European football’s hottest prospects last summer after a remarkable campaign in which he scored 27 goals in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt.
But he’s struggled with injuries and lacked opportunities since signing for Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants are considering cutting their losses.
Jovic has made just four league starts for the club, eight in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Leicester City and AC Milan are the other two interested clubs cited in the report.
Chelsea emerge in race for Lille star
Yet another forward has been tipped to sign for Chelsea this summer: highly-rated Lille star Jonathan Ikone.
The France international has predominantly featured as a central attacking midfielder for the Ligue 1 club this term but he’s also played on both the left and right side of their attack.
According to French outlet Le10Sport, both Chelsea and Inter Milan have made their interest in the versatile 22-year-old known.
If the report is to be believed, it’s possible the Blues view Ikone as a Havertz alternative.
