Good morning, Chelsea fans. Here are your morning headlines for Friday, August 28.
Havertz inches closer to Chelsea move
Chelsea’s busy summer shows no sign of slowing down after Malang Sarr became the club's fourth signing yesterday.
Thiago Silva will be the fifth, but after that it’s about getting Kai Havertz over the line, arguably the headline name for Chelsea and certainly the most expensive.
The Guardian reports the Bayer Leverkusen attacker will become Chelsea’s record signing, while his move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League “could be completed before the end of the week.”
Havertz is expected to cost around £90 million, taking the club’s spending past £220m for the summer.
The club will try to offset that outlay by selling the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Ross Barkley and other squad players no longer wanted by Frank Lampard.
Sarr’s first words after joining
Defender Malang Sarr completed his free transfer to Chelsea yesterday having left former side Nice at the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.
The defender is heading out on loan, the club have already confirmed, to ensure he gets the regular game time and experience he needs to continue his development, but a five-year deal makes it clear that Chelsea see him as a longer-term option.
Sarr took to Instagram after signing to express his joy and thanks for the fans.
"Blue is the colour! Happy and grateful to sign for Chelsea FC,” he posted. "Thanks for the love and support! Let's get to work and achieve big things together."
No club has yet been decided as his landing point for 2020/21.
Silva signing close as PSG confirm exit
Sarr might not be one for the immediate term, but Thiago Silva will be.
The vastly experienced Brazilian has officially departed Paris Saint-Germain, with the French club acknowledging the end of his career with them on social media.
Playing more than 300 games for PSG, Silva was a huge part of the French club's project and domestic domination. But he is now expected to sign at Stamford Bridge.
A video montage from his former club, posted on Twitter, showed the important role he has played for PSG, while president Nasser Al-Khelaifi also left his own message.
"Thiago, thank you for these eight memorable years, full of lasting memories and for your involvement, your devotion and your aura.
"You will forever be one of the greatest players in history, and your legendary status here at @PSG_inside will last forever.
"I wish you and your family the best for your future challenges, you will always be part of the family and the history of the club, a big thank you Captain!"
