Chelsea morning headlines as Ben Chilwell alternative targeted, Lampard drops Havertz hint

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Tuesday, August 11.

Chelsea eye Tagliafico as Chilwell alternative

Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, according to Sky Sports.

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is Chelsea’s first-choice target in that position but the Blues have yet to agree a fee for the England international.

While Chilwell would be expected to cost in excess of £60million, Tagliafico represents a more affordable alternative.

The Argentine, 27, has two years left on his contract with Ajax and has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He scored five goals and provided five assists for the Dutch side last term.

Chelsea are also weighing up a possible move for Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon, who has impressed on loan at Sevilla.

Lampard drops Havertz hint on Instagram

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has caught the eye of the club’s eagle-eyed supporters after liking a Kai Havertz-related post on Instagram.

Popular account 433 uploaded a video of the Bayer Leverkusen ace nutmegging a defender, with Lampard liking the post.

Although Lampard has been coy when asked about further reinforcements for the squad after signing Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Chelsea are understood to be the clear frontrunners for Havertz, who is valued by Leverkusen at £90million.

The Blues, however, are hoping to secure the young German’s signature for closer to £70million.

Dortmund make final decision on Sancho

Jadon Sancho will be staying at Borussia Dortmund for the 2020/21 season, according to the German club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.

Sancho, who enjoyed a stellar season at Dortmund, is Manchester United’s top transfer target, but has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.

However, the England international will seemingly be staying put for the time being.

“We plan with Jadon Sancho. He’ll play for us next season. The decision is final. I think that answers all of the questions,” Zorc said, via Dortmund’s official Twitter page.

Such a development may work out in Chelsea’s favour. With United expected to pursue alternative targets if their interest in Sancho is rebuffed, the Blues could stand a stronger chance of landing the former Manchester City youngster in 2021.

Dortmund will reportedly demand well in excess of £100m for the 21-year-old, who has managed 29 goals and 30 assists over the last two Bundesliga seasons.
