Chelsea midfielder who starred at Bristol Rovers a transfer target for Scottish Premiership club

Luke McCormick left Bristol Rovers with the belief that the midfielder would secure a move at least to a League One club following his impressive loan in BS7.

But Scottish Premiership side Motherwell have emerged as the latest club chasing his signature, according to the Scottish Sun.

McCormick scored six goals with two assists in 39 games for the Gas and the energy he brought to the Gas midfield, particularly after Joey Barton took over, was a constant in what proved challenging circumstances for the club.

Championship Millwall and League One AFC Wimbledon had previously been linked with the 22-year-old, who has spent 16 years with the west London club having never made a first-team appearance.

McCormick has a year on his deal at Stamford Bridge but reports last month indicated he would be allowed to leave on a free transfer providing a high sell-on clause was included in the deal.

Motherwell recently brought in former Scunthorpe United manager Nick Daws as their head of recruitment, with the 51-year-old having served as assistant manager at AFC Wimbledon for two years before his departure in January.

Rovers would, of course, like to re-sign McCormick and manager Joey Barton is understood to have kept in touch with the young midfielder, however the expectation is that he'll eventually earn a move higher up the pyramid.
