Chelsea midfielder on loan at Bristol Rovers linked with move to Millwall

Bristol Rovers’ on-loan midfielder Luke McCormick has been linked with a summer move to the Championship.

The Chelsea youngster, 22, is enjoying a successful stint at the Mem this season, on a personal level at least.

The central midfielder has made 29 appearances for the Gas this term, scoring three goals, and his rate of improvement since joining the club on loan in September has been impressive.

He has become a key member of Joey Barton’s side and despite a foolish red card against Burton Albion last week, Rovers fans are hopeful McCormick’s temporary move to the Mem could be made permanent in the summer, should the Gas avoid relegation.

But they are set to face stiff competition from his signature, with The Sun reporting Championship side Millwall have been tracking McCormick’s performances in the blue and white quarters.

McCormick’s deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2022 and, with a breakthrough into Thomas Tuchel’s first-team setup unlikely, the midfielder is expected to leave permanently this summer.

Last month, Bristol Live asked McCormick if he could see a permanent move to BS7 in his future.

“I massively appreciate the support,” he replied. “The Gasheads are a massive fanbase and I knew that before joining the club.

“They just want us to put our heart and soul onto the pitch for the badge.

“It’s frustrating that I’ve not played in front of them but I can feel their support from home via social media.

“Wherever the end of the season and the summer takes me, I don’t know that yet.

“I am a Chelsea player first and foremost, so it’s hard to comment on, but I love this football club and hopefully one day soon I get to play in front of the fans.”
