Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante explains why he rejected PSG switch: 'I felt good in London, in the project'

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has confirmed he rejected Paris Saint-Germain for "sporting" reasons, insisting he is happy to remain at Stamford Bridge.

2018 World Cup winner Kante's consistently superb form for Leicester and Chelsea since arriving in English football from Caen four years ago has attracted significant attention from PSG, who are currently dominating French football as they seek to claim a sixth domestic title in seven years.

Links between Kante and PSG have circulated during the past several transfer windows and resurfaced again during the summer after a change in role under Maurizio Sarri, though the 28-year-old is clearly content to stay and play a key role in the Frank Lampard era.

“Sometimes we do not necessarily know where we want to go. But we know what we have. I know I was in Chelsea and I was good there,” he said in an interview with French television channel Canal Plus.

“If I did not want to come to PSG it was more a sporting choice. I felt good in London, in the project and I was happy to stay there.”

Kante has featured only sporadically under Lampard so far, with a succession of injuries - knee, ankle, hamstring and groin - limiting him to just five Premier League starts to date in 2019/20.

However, he returned from a six-match lay-off against Crystal Palace before the international break and played for France in their penultimate Euro 2020 qualifier against Moldova before featuring for 90 minutes - and scoring - for Chelsea in a losing effort at champions Manchester City on Saturday evening.
