Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour names surprise Manchester United man as most difficult opponent

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has revealed the most difficult opponent he has faced off against in his fledgeling career so far, naming a surprising Manchester United man.

The teenager has caught the eye in his breakthrough at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard this season, with Man of the Match performances against Liverpool in the FA Cup and Everton in the Premier League.

However, that wasn't his first taste of senior action as he had previously featured in the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester United earlier in the campaign.

That match clearly left an impression on the teenage starlet, as he named United's Scott McTominay as the most difficult opponent he has faced off against.

Alan Smith's full Chelsea Q&A

"In a game I’d say Scott McTominay, not just because he’s Scottish, it was just in that game I found it very difficult," he said during a live Twitch stream.

"[There’s] no rivalry, I don’t know him that well. But after the match he did text me and said, ‘keep doing what you’re doing’. I thought that was really nice of him."

Gilmour has made three Premier League appearances so far this season and will aim to increase that figure when the current suspension of the league is lifted.
