Chelsea midfield loanee earns glowing praise after match-winning display

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has attracted plenty of praise following his goal for West Brom on the weekend,

Gallagher scored to help the Baggies, his loan club, their first win of the season on Saturday, Slaven Bilic's men defeating fellow strugglers Sheffield United.

The goal is Gallager's first of the season after joining the Midlands club on a seson-long loan, but it's clear he has made quite the impression at The Hawthorns.

Gallagher's teammate Kyle Bartley told the club's official website: “We didn’t play as well as we have been doing but the most important thing tonight was the three points and we managed to get them.

"We spoke before the game about showing the same work rate and desire that we have done in the last two games.

“Conor’s a great lad, great player and we talk about work rate and he’s right up there every single week in terms of distance, high-intensity runs and is a breath of fresh air.

"It’s important to get a clean sheet and we know we have to remain solid. I feel like we’ve done well over the last few weeks to limit the chances.”

It wasn't just Bartley who singled Gallagher out for praise with West Brom boss Bilic also heaping the praise on the 20-year-old.

"Conor Gallagher has a lot of everything," said the Baggies boss after the game. "He's young, he can take balls, good in defending, he's very calm on the ball, he's energetic and he loves to get in the box.

"I'm really delighted with his contribution. He got a massive career in front of him. Massive."

Speaking about his goal, Gallagher told Sky Sports: "For all the corners I seemed to find space on the edge so I had a few chances and scuffed a few but fortunately, one went in."
