Chelsea, Manchester United and the opening fixtures facing Jose Mourinho as Tottenham boss

Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement at Tottenham.

The club announced on Tuesday evening that the Argentine and his coaching staff had been relieved of their duties after a nightmare start to the 2019/20 campaign.

With odds on Mourinho to become the next Spurs boss dropping shortly after the club had revealed that they had parted ways with Pochettino, the Lilywhites confirmed the announcement of the 56-year-old as head coach on a deal until 2023 on Wednesday morning.

That means the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss will be in the dugout on Saturday lunchtime when Spurs travel across the capital to face West Ham at the London Stadium.

But who else do the team face in the next few weeks following his appointment?

Well, attention will switch to the Champions League after the game in Stratford as Olympiacos visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Now in a great position to qualify following back-to-back wins over Red Star Belgrade, three points over the Greek side will clinch the team's passage into the knockout phase for the third year on the trot.

Bournemouth are then the next visitors to N17 after the European fixture, with a trip to Manchester United then coming up the following week as Mourinho makes his return to Old Trafford following his dismissal last December.

Following a home game against Burnley, Spurs then travel to Germany as they face Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group game.

Fingers crossed the Lilywhites will have advanced to the Round of 16 by then and they will not need to get a result at the Allianz Arena like they had to do last December in Barcelona.

Facing a tricky away trip to Wolves a few days later, Mourinho then takes on another one of his former clubs as Chelsea make their first trip to the club's stunning new home.

Frank Lampard's side are currently flying in the Premier League table at present and they will travel to north London in confident mood with the aim of beating their great rivals once again.

The festive period then gets up and running with a home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion and away trips to Norwich and Southampton.
