Chelsea make Michy Batshuayi transfer decision as Belgian star attracts Premier League interest

Michy Batshuayi is set to leave Chelsea permanently this summer and football.london understands at least one top-half Premier League club is interested in signing the Belgium international.

The 27-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016 from Ligue 1 side Marseille in a deal worth up to £33.2million. Yet despite the sizeable transfer fee paid by the Blues, Batshuayi never established himself as a regular under Antonio Conte.

He made only 18 starts during his first 18 months at the club before embarking on loans at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace.

Due to the club's transfer ban, Batshuayi did spend the 2019/20 campaign with Chelsea but he was only afforded five starts by Frank Lampard, who preferred Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud over the Belgian forward.

After signing a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge last summer, Batshuayi rejoined Palace on a season-long loan. He made 20 appearances under Roy Hodgson but of those only nine were starts.

Batshuayi did enough, however, to convince Roberto Martinez to select him for Belgium's Euro 2020 squad. He is currently with the Red Devils ahead of their warm-up games against Greece and Croatia.

After the European Championships, Batshuayi is expected to return to Cobham for pre-season training. Yet his long-term future lies away from Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi's contract at Chelsea expires in the summer of 2022 and football.london understands the club are hoping to recoup a fee in excess of £10m for the frontman who has impressively netted a goal every 97 minutes for the Blues.

One top-half Premier League side have shown interest in a move for Batshuayi but no formal offer has yet been submitted to Chelsea.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik, meanwhile, have reported Trabzonspor after interested in a deal for Batshuayi, although it's unlikely they would match the European champions' asking price.

It's set to be a busy summer in terms of outgoings at Chelsea. Giroud and Willy Caballero are set to depart when their contracts expire at the end of this month while AC Milan are set to make Fikayo Tomori's loan deal permanent in the next fortnight.

There is also interest in Italy in full-back Emerson Palmieri, whose contract with the Blues is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. Abraham could also depart Stamford Bridge permanently if Chelsea receive a substantial offer for the 23-year-old.

Abraham ended the campaign as the Blues' joint top scorer in all competitions but barely featured under Thomas Tuchel during the run-in and was left out of the 23-man Champions League final squad entirely.
