Chelsea look to Barcelona youngster with Andreas Christensen likely to leave Blues in summer

Chelsea are expected to have a very busy summer transfer window, despite uncertainty revolving around the club's ownership, as manager Thomas Tuchel continues to shape the squad to his requirements.

One area that the Blues will definitely be looking to reinforce is their backline, especially considering the status of many first-team members currently remains uncertain.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger will both be out of contract at the end of the season, with neither at this stage looking likely to commit their long term futures at Stamford Bridge.

Another player who is set to become a free agent this summer is centre back Andreas Christensen.

A whole host of clubs across Europe are interested in acquiring the Danish international's signature, with Barcelona reportedly offering a five year deal as manager Xavi pushes to sign the 25-year-old for next season.

Should the Spanish giants manage to agree on a deal with Christensen, this could potentially start a domino effect, with recent reports stating that Chelsea will then attempt to lure Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo away from Spain.

The 22-year-old was only promoted to the Barcelona first team last season but has already become a key figure in the club's defence.

But despite the interest shown by Chelsea, pundit Steve McManaman has revealed that he is probably 'unsellable' right now and spoke about how the Uruguayan must progress further in his development.

"At the moment Araújo’s still got a lot to learn and improve on," McManaman told horseracing.net.

"However, he probably is unsellable for Barcelona at the moment, just because of their squad. [Samuel] Umtiti signed again but they don’t really fancy him and they want him to leave."
