Chelsea loanee shows up first team player in front of Frank Lampard during pre-season

Chelsea's pre-season is in full swing as Frank Lampard takes the Blues for the first time in Ireland as part of a busy summer for the club.

Lampard was announced as the new head coach on Thursday before the squad flew out to Dublin on Friday and then got to work with the first session yesterday evening.

The squad that have flown out to Ireland is definitely not a full first team outfit, with several players being given extra time off and are set to join up with the team next week.

However, that means that the academy players and loan players are going to get their chance to impress Lampard and force their way into the first team next season.

One of those is Lewis Baker. The 24-year-old has bounced around the loan system with spells at Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds United and Reading and has failed to really settle at the Blues.

But he will get the chance this summer and he might well have caught the eye of Lampard with one particular move during pre-season.

Cesar Azpilicueta is part of the travelling squad and went for a flying tackle on Baker, however the England U21s player was too clever for him.

Baker saw the Blues skipper coming and quickly nipped the ball away from the sliding challenge and got clear just in time.

The loanee has a lot of ability and will be hoping to get an opportunity to show what he can do when they play Bohemians FC and St Patrick's Athletic over the next week.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Izzy Brown, along with the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcos Alonso, Matteo Kovacic, David Luiz, N'Golo Kante, Willian and Christian Pulisic will link up with the squad at a later date.

The Blues fly out to Japan for two matches before returning and taking on Reading away, with matches at RB Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach to follow.
