Chelsea let local players train at Stamford Bridge during coronavirus lockdown

Premier League training grounds might be off limits during the coronavirus outbreak, but Chelsea seem to have no such qualms about putting their Stamford Bridge home to use.

With the government urging the UK population to stay at home to slow the spread of Covid-19, many footballers are having to train by themselves to stay fit.

Most stars already have the luxury of having gyms built inside their impressive homes, while others have taken to pounding the streets in their respective bids to stay fit.

The Blues, though, appear happy to let some of their players make use of Stamford Bridge, as seen in footage uploaded by outcast Marco van Ginkel earlier this week.

In a post on his Instagram account on Monday, the Dutch midfielder can be seen taking part in a training drill on the hallowed turf of the west London stadium.

The 27-year-old captioned the footage: "Staying in as much as possible, but happy to live close to the stadium and do my training."

The Dutch international opened up more on Chelsea players being allowed to train at the stadium during a recent interview with PSV Eindhoven TV, having previously played on loan for the Eredivise giants.

"The boys who live nearby can train in the stadium. So this is ideal for me. You only have to train on your own, so it is a bit boring," said van Ginkel.

"But I also trained in a park and the field is a lot less there. It’s top-notch in Stamford Bridge.”

The training session was a rare outing at the Bridge for van Ginkel, who has only made two league appearances for Chelsea since joining Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

The 27-year-old's last game for the Blues' first-team was in the EFL Cup back in September 2013, with the Dutchman going on to spend time on loan at AC Milan, Stoke and PSV.
