Chelsea Legends vs Liverpool Legends LIVE
A week on from a dramatic conclusion in the Premier League, Chelsea and Liverpool met again at Stamford Bridge. This time, however, the clash took the form of a high-profile charity match featuring star-studded line-ups from both sides including John Terry, Eden Hazard, Pepe Reina and Yossi Benayoun.
And in a reverse result from last weekend’s last-gasp win by the Blues, it was the Reds who pulled off a late victory this time around, courtesy of a quick counter-attack and a cool cut-back finish by Ryan Babel.
It meant Liverpool have done the double over their Chelsea counterparts in charity matches this year, after sealing a 2-0 win at Anfield back in March. Proceeds raised from Saturday’s well-attended match in west London will go to the Chelsea Foundation, the Chelsea Players’ Trust and the LFC Foundation. The Belgian, an undisputed Chelsea legend after spending seven trophy-laden campaigns with the club, started in a line-up filled with fellow Blues greats aiming to get the better of their Liverpool counterparts.
Despite being two years into retirement, he showed glimpses of the flair that made him such a fierce fan favourite during his time in west London. He was withdrawn by manager Roberto Di Matteo in the second half, prior to Ryan Babel’s late winner, and received a standing ovation from the home support.
Hazard had already expressed his feelings about returning to the scene of some of his greatest successes as a player.

Two star-studded squads took to the pitch on a sunny afternoon in the capital, with the Blues hoping to make amends for a 2-0 loss at Anfield earlier this year.
Boasting arguably a stronger line-up helmed by Roberto Di Matteo, the hosts were on top for much of the 80-minute match as the likes of club legends Eden Hazard and John Terry were spurred on by their home fans.
But in the end, even Hazard’s wizardry, second half substitute Joe Cole and some vintage Diego Costa weren’t enough for the hosts to get revenge on the Reds, who snuck a late winner when Babel finished off a swift counter-attacking move.

Speaking to the Athletic, he said: “I’ve never actually got around to writing the social media post to announce it; I’ve only told friends and family, but yeah, I’ve retired.
“It was March when I sat down with the family and told them I was thinking about it. Around the same time, I got asked to play for Liverpool in a legends game against Chelsea. One of the stipulations was that you had to be retired, so that just reaffirmed my decision.”
