Chelsea legend Paul Canoville has ‘unfinished business’ to tackle racism after ‘near-death experience’

Chelsea legend Paul Canoville says he has “unfinished business” as he looks to get back to tackling racism after his “near-death experience.”

The 58-year-old in early February feel critically ill in hospital after emergency surgery.

Canoville, who has successfully battled cancer three times, is now back at home at over a month in hospital and he begins a “long road to recovery.”

And now Canoville, the Blues first ever black player when he signed in 1981, is ready to get back to work with his foundation.

He tweeted on Thursday morning: “People know I’ve had my fair share of illness [and] a few near death experiences. It seems this was the closest I’ve been.

“I’m thankful for the prayers [and] love that got me through. Now I’ve got unfinished business. Gods plan for me!! #EducateOutRacism”

Canoville has become an inspirational figure to many after a playing career which saw him endure horrendous racial abuse.

He has also been honest about his previous battles with drugs and recovered from cancer on three occasions.

His foundation now helps young people in the community with life skills.
