John Terry has called for former England teammate David Beckham to be knighted.
On the day that Sir Lewis Hamilton, who Terry also congratulated, was honoured by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle, Terry tweeted his support for Beckham.
The 46-year-old, who made 115 appearances for the national team over the course of a glittering career, was awarded an OBE in 2003 for his services to football and was originally tipped for a knighthood as far back as 2007.
Beckham was also heavily involved in bringing the Olympics to London in 2012 and was also on a team with Prince William, the president of the FA, in an attempt to win the right to host the 2018 World Cup.

The notion of knighting footballers is reasonably rare with that honour largely reserved for members of the 1966 World Cup-winning team, alongside iconic names in the English game such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Kenny Dalglish.
