Chelsea legend Didier Drogba mocks Arsenal transfer business as Edu saves £20m

Chelsea icon Didier Drogba jokingly told Chelsea to re-sign Willian after the Brazilian winger departed Arsenal on Monday night.

The pair briefly played together at Stamford Bridge during the 2014/15 campaign, in which the Blues won the Premier League.

Willian eventually switched west London for north, completing a free transfer to the Gunners last summer.

However, the former Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker struggled for consistency at the Emirates Stadium, notching just one goal in 37 games before Arsenal decided it would be best to part ways with him this summer.

The Gunners announced on Monday night that they had terminated his contract by mutual consent, a decision made by Willian that could reportedly save the club up to £20.5million in wages over the next two years.

And the Brazilian international took to social media to thank the Arsenal fans for their support over the last 12 months, whilst also confirming that his decision to join Mikel Arteta's side was not based on financial gains.

"I would like to thank Arsenal for the opportunity they have given to me and for the warm welcome received by everybody at the club", his Instagram post read.

"Unfortunately, things on the pitch didn’t go the way we had all planned and hoped, I received a lot of criticism especially from some members of the press that I had come here for financial reasons…

"I hope with my actions today explain to those people and they now understand that was not the case.

"I hope it teaches some people that they should not be so quick to pass judgement and create bad environments to make themselves important even though I accept that’s part of the game."

But Drogba has also taken to Twitter to say: "Oh Willyyyyyyyyyyyyyy haaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn Come back home," - accompanied by a wink emoji and a blue heart.

The former Ivory Coast frontman followed this up in a later tweet with ten laughing emojis, appearing to mock the Gunners, who currently sit 20th in the Premier League table following three losses from their opening three league fixtures.
