Chelsea legend Cesc Fabregas gives his honest verdict on misfiring striker Timo Werner

Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes Blues forward Timo Werner “looks fed up sometimes” when asked his opinion on the striker.

The Germany international moved to London from RB Leipzig in 2020 under Frank Lampard. The deal was reportedly for a fee of over £45million as the manager looked to add some firepower to his team that summer.

The 25-year-old was known for his blistering pace on the shoulder, often turning defences to create quality chances and scoring. He scored 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances in his last season at Leipzig.

However, things have not been as smooth since his switch to Stamford Bridge. The striker has scored just 16 goals in 62 competitive appearances, often struggling to find the back of the net with chances he would have otherwise put away with confidence.

The form of Werner prompted Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to dip back into the market, bringing Romelu Lukaku back to the club from Inter Milan in a deal worth over £100million.

Former Blues midfielder Fabregas, who spent five years at the club and won two trophies in his time at Stamford Bridge, answered questions on his twitter account in a Q and A session.

The topic of Werner came up, with @Mohamedcfc11 asking: “What do you think of Timo Werner? #AskCesc.”

Are Chelsea better without a recognised striker? Take the short survey below.

To which the current Monaco player replied: “He makes so many good runs but sometimes they either don’t see him or don’t play the pass. Looks fed up sometimes.”

For the time being, the forward will have to remain on the sidelines as he is currently nursing an injury picked up in the Champions League tie against Malmo.

However, time will tell if he can turn it around at the London club and rediscover the form he enjoyed in the Bundesliga and on international duty for Germany.
