Chelsea learn when UEFA will decide if Real Madrid will be expelled from the Champions League

Chelsea should find out whether their Champions League semi-final tie with Real Madrid will go ahead at some point today.

The Blues are preparing to face Los Blancos in the first leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday at Valdebebas, but the build-up to the game hasn't exactly been routine.

It's been a hectic week for both clubs after each of them decided to become a founding member of The Super League, receiving intense criticism on the back of it.

Within 48 hours, Chelsea withdrew from the project following the disapproval of their supporters, while Real Madrid remain intent to make it work.

That's despite 10 of the 12 founding members since pulling out, leaving only Barcelona and Real Madrid in the proposed competition.

Los Blancos chief Florentino Perez is the president of The Super League, and he is now at odds with UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin, who has not minced his words over the project.

In fact, Ceferin and UEFA want punishment for those involved, and particularly Real Madrid and Juventus, according to La Gazzetta.

It's claimed UEFA are discussing what could be done with their legal team, and some time today, they will meet to decide whether to kick Real Madrid out of this season's Champions League, as well as suspending them from next season's edition.

The Super League did get some legal protection in the way of a court ruling in Spain which protected teams involved from 'punitive measures' from UEFA.

But if UEFA finds that the teams involved have breached competition rules, they may still have grounds to take such measures, and it's understood they will make the decision during a meeting today having had extensive talks with their legal team.
