Chelsea 'keen' on Atletico Madrid transfer as Thiago Silva sends contract message

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Sunday, June 6

Thiago Silva's message

Following signing a new 12-month contract extension with Chelsea, Brazilian central defender Thiago Silva has sent a heartfelt message to the Chelsea fanbase that he thinks of as 'family'.

Silva has quickly become a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge since his free transfer last summer and the 36-year-old will remain at the club for at least one more year after reaching an agreement with the club.

Witing on social media, the defender posted: I'm very happy and proud to announce today my contract extension until 2022 with @ChelseaFC!!," he wrote on Instagram. "I am very proud to be part of the Chelsea family."

An announcement of Silva staying for another season was made on Friday - just hours after it was confirmed that Thomas Tuchel had earned himself an extension too.

"Following the Champions League final, Chelsea Football Club has exercised an option to extend Thiago Silva’s contract by one year, taking his time at Stamford Bridge into a second season," the club announced.

Declan Rice's message to Mason Mount

Former Chelsea academy player and now West Ham star Declan Rice was filmed chatting with Mason Mount as the pair linked up for England duty.

The two are close friends having known each other from their time in the Blues youth system and were clearly enjoying being reunited.

A video posted on England's YouTube channel took a look behind the scenes at the latest training camp as the Three Lions prepare for Euro 2020 and caught Rice and Mount taking a break together.

The pair were looking at Mount's phone with Rice joking the Chelsa man was showing him his Champions League highlights.

Chelsea 'eye' Saul

According to a report in the Daily Star, Tuchel is looking to strengthen his midfield options and one player that has caught his fancy is Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez.

The Spanish international has previously been linked with a move to England with Liverpool but opted to remain in Madrid where he went onto become a La Liga champion under Diego Simeone at Atletico.

Spanish newspaper AS have reported that Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the 26-year-old and with the midfielder tied down to a deal until 2026 any move for Saul could be a tough deal to get over the line.
