Chelsea have confirmed that there are not set to be restrictions on fans attending the club's Premier League match with Aston Villa on Saturday March 14 after their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich was moved behind closed doors.
Fans will not be granted access to the Allianz Arena and have been advised not to travel after local German authorities took the decision to prevent potential contagion of the coronavirus at large public events.
The UK government has decided against taking similar steps after ministers, civil servants and representatives of relevant agencies and departments met in Whitehall for a COBRA meeting on Monday March 9.
However, the situation could soon changed with football.london understanding that a number of Premier League clubs have already begun to prepare for domestic games to be taken behind closed doors.
In a statement released on their official website Chelsea reassured fans that they are currently free to attend the match against Aston Villa if they have tickets.
"Presently there are no restrictions on Chelsea fans attending our Premier League match at Aston Villa on Saturday," read the release from the west London club.
Chelsea also announced that they would be issuing refunds for fans who paid for tickets and travel to watch the Blues away against Bayern Munich.
Elsewhere in Europe, Italy has placed itself into a state of national lock down while games were already set to be played behind closed doors in France and Spain.
