Chelsea interested in Real Madrid defender heading into January transfer window

Chelsea are interested in a move for Real Madrid and Brazil defender Eder Militao, reports El Nacional.

The 23-year-old has become an important part of the Los Blancos side this season, stepping up in the absence of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, who both left the club in the summer.

He joined from Porto in 2019 at just 21-years-old and has made over 50 appearances for the club since.

Thomas Tuchel has been linked with a move for several centre-backs heading into January, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt.

The Blues may look into the market for a defender due to dwindling contracts in the ranks. Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta are all free to leave in the summer if they don’t sign an extension at the club.

Rudiger has been previously linked with a move to Madrid on a Bosman transfer in the summer, but the Germany international has also stated his happiness at Stamford Bridge for the time being.

The report claims that Tuchel has made a €40million (£34million) offer for Militao, which has been turned down by Los Blancos president Florentino Perez.

The Brazil international is said to be on €4.5million-a-year (£3.8million) with his current deal, a salary seen as low for his importance in the squad.

In an attempt to stop the Blues from making another offer, Perez is said to be willing to offer a new deal and increased wages to the defender.
