Chelsea interested in Pau Torres transfer as Gianfranco Zola offers honest Kai Havertz verdict

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Wednesday, June 2.

Zola offers honest verdict on Havertz position

Gianfranco Zola has named Kai Havertz's best position after his match-winning performance on Saturday evening.

Chelsea secured their second Champions League trophy at the weekend with Havertz scoring the only goal of the game against Manchester City.

The Germany international played on the right of a front three and looked very comfortable at the Estadio do Dragao.

The 21-year-old has played in a variety of positions since moving to the Blues last summer - including in the 'false nine' role.

Zola told talkSPORT : “We thought he wasn’t finding the right position on the pitch and probably not affecting the game as much as we thought he could.

"The other day he proved everybody wrong.

“He performed so well for the team and also this position, centre and on the right, I think it suits him and Chelsea very much.”

What Modric and Kovacic did after Champions League final

Footage of Mateo Kovacic being congratulated on his recent Champions League win by Luka Modric has gone viral via the Croatia national team's official Instagram page.

The video shows Kovacic being presented with a Champions League-themed cake, while he receives applause from his Croatia team-mates.

Chelsea eye Torres transfer

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have identified Pau Torres as a possible signing this summer.

The report claims that Torres is being looked at just in case other options fall through.

The Blues have been linked with numerous central defenders this summer, including Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde and Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix.

Chelsea look as if they are on the hunt for a new centre-half, with the likes of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen all entering the final stages of their deals at Stamford Bridge.
