Chelsea injury blow as Frank Lampard confirms four key missing players ahead of Liverpool clash

Frank Lampard has confirmed that four key players will miss Chelsea's match against Liverpool this weekend.

The Reds travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday looking for a second win in as many Premier League matches to open their 2020/21 title defence.

Jurgen Klopp's side ran out dramatic 4-3 winners against Leeds United at Anfield last weekend but will be hoping for a more straight forward route to all three points, easier said than done when it comes to games against Chelsea.

Liverpool did manage to claim victory in this fixture last season with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino wrapping up a 2-1 win. They also ran out eventual 5-3 winners when the pair met at Anfield before the champions picked up the Premier League trophy in July.

Chelsea began their new season with a 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday night, with big-money signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz both making their debuts.

Werner was forced off with a dead leg but is expected to be fit to make his first home appearance but three of Chelsea's other headline additions will miss the match.

Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell will all miss the match while Christian Pulisic is also absent, having made quite the impact from the bench at Anfield in two months ago.

"Chilwell is not ready for the game, neither is Christian Pulisic. We hope they will work well during the week," Lampard told Football.London during his pre-match press conference.

"Hakim Ziyech is also not ready for the game. Werner is fit, though.

"Thiago (Silva) has been training for the last three or four days, but Liverpool will come too soon for him."

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has hinted Liverpool's new signing Thiago Alcantara could make a shock debut at the weekend.
