Chelsea in talks to hire ex-Liverpool transfer specialist who signed Mohamed Salah

Chelsea are pressing forward with talks to appoint ex-Liverpool recruitment specialist David Fallows into a senior leadership role.

The former Reds director left Anfield in September 2024 following 12 successful years at the club, where he focused on recruitment and led the club’s scouting network.

Chelsea now have plans to hire the 45-year-old into a position that would see him take an active role in scouting and player development at Stamford Bridge.

He would also have input on football operations, including decisions on the recruitment of players, coaches and staff.

Fallows would work closely with Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, as well as recruitment and talent co-directors Sam Jewell and Joe Shields. It is understood that he would report directly to Stewart and Winstanley.

During a long career in football, Fallows has also previously worked for Manchester City, Newcastle and Bolton.

Chelsea’s recruitment strategy changed significantly in 2022 when Roman Abramovich sold the club to a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s Clearlake Capital.

When it was announced last year that Fallows was leaving Liverpool, the club stated that his contribution had been “fundamental” in helping to build the team that won the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2019, as well as the 2020 Premier League title, two Carabao Cups and an FA Cup.

At Liverpool, he oversaw the signings of several great players including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson, among others.
